Styles P On The Word "Swagger"(sigh)....

Whether it was rappers talking about it in interviews or spitting about it in songs like T.I. and Jay-Z’s “Swagga Like Us” featuring Kanye West and Lil Wayne, the word swagger got plenty of play in 2008. It seemed like everyone was either talking about their own swag or had a take on someone else’s. Some, though, like Yonkers MC and Lox member Styles P, didn’t quite understand where all the excitement around the word came from.

“It’s not even the use of the word that bothers me, it’s the abuse of the word that bothers me,” SP told XXLMag.com. “Jesus Christ! Just let it go a little bit. Lean off of it a little bit.”

“I mean, ain’t nothing wrong with having style, swag and all of that,” he admitted, “but I think all the guys are starting to be so focused on the look and the way they are so much, that it almost make them like girls.”

Kanye West - 808's And Heartbreak Album Review

I Just picked up the new Kanye. First, let me say this album is definitely not TRADITIONAL hip-hop by definition or comparison. But, I feel like Kanye West Is pushing the envelope as far as taking elements from every music genre and making them his own. With that being said, there's a fine line between voicing your opinion and hating. Hating isn't good for you. Sidebar:It gives you high cholesterol and a chode(google it) . But, I have digressed..........

1. Say You Will
On 808's opening track, Kanye West vents his frustration about his ex-fiance Alexis Phifer not understanding the saying "Actions Speak Louder Than Words". The track itself fails to compliment Kanye's storytelling. 6.8/10
2.Welcome To Heartbreak featuring Kid Cudi
Most of the time I try to be impartial when making decisions on if something is wack or not. KID CUDI IS WACK. And this is my opinion(and I'm sure it is others also). Kanye vents again this track. Basically, he's saying he wants kids and how all he has to show for in life are material things. The track doesn't strike me in any way. FAIL. 5.o/10
3. Heartless
One of my favorite tracks on the album. This track is the only track on the album that features some kind of rapping (but not really). The beat's simplicity is enough to knock and get airplay on the radio. Sidebar:I identified the sample (which was played over)....I can't remember the name of the song. It's an old Paul McCartney song. I recognize the chord progressions. Anyway, like most songs on this album this is song is dedicated to his ex-fiancee. 8.5-9.0/10.0
4. Amazing featuring Young Jeezy
This track is also a banger. Honestly, Auto-Tune is pissing me off. It's annoying now only because everybody's abusing it. But anyway, Kanye sings about a some bullshit. "I'm a monster, I'm a killer, I know I'm wrong,I'm a problem that will never ever be solved. THEN, sings about some things that raise some eyebrows. I'm a monster, I'm a MAVEN(google it),
I know this world is changing (maybe its just me).
Young Jizzle spazzes on this one.
9.5/10

5.Love Lockdown
I hated this at first. But, its grew on me. The video concept is very dope. I guess Kanye is trying to get his Chris Martin On(as far as the piano and tribal drums). The production strikes me as some Coldplay-ish type pop. The tribal drums in the closing of the song are dope.Obviously, Kanye wants you to keep your love lockdown.(my mom told me this in 97')8.5/10
6.Paranoid featuring Mr. Hudson and the Library
By far the best song on the album. It's also as far away as hip-hop as you can go. Straight pop on this banger. Paranoia of the girlfriend is the subject of this song"You worry about the wrong things, the wrong things, the wrong things......The singer Mr. Hudson reminds of the frontman from Fall Out Boy. Dope Shit. 10/10
7.Robocop featuring additional production from The Legendary Herbie Hancock.
This track requires an aquired taste. It's a little bit experimental. Me personally, I enjoyed the other version. This one is definetaly a banger though. It strikes me as some Euro-pop experimental type shit. I like it though. 9.0/10
8.Street Lights
Big fan of this one. Very Experimental. One of the few tracks where its dope to the point where I can respect it on a level of a fan and a producer. 9.5/10
9.Bad News
You can only guess what the song is about. The death of his mother and the lack of support from his ex-fiancee and among other things....
This track is heartfelt. With that being said, the lyrics are medicore at best. The symphony on the song is dope though. 7.8/10
10.See You In My Knightmares featuring Lil Wayne
The song's concept scares me so much, I'm not gonna tell what its about.I bet you won't get it.
It's much more than him telling Ms. Phifer than he doesn't love her anymore. Anyway, the song is dope. I am a Big Lil Wayne fan. But, he killed the whole vibe of this song with his choice of $2 words and metaphors, "You think your shit doesn't stink, but you are Mrs. Pee-You. (sighs)
8.5/10

11.Coldest Winter
The beat is very creative and dope on this one. This is song is dedicated to his late mother Donda West. I can definately relate to this song(as far as losing a mother recently, not that recent but it feels like it).Deep 808 bassdrums and white noise invoke the feeling of being heartbroken.
10/10

I would write a review about Pinnochio Story but I can't really make out what he's saying.
Overall Rating:9.2/10
Kanye has done it once again. But, due to its experimental value, NIGGAS WILL HATE. Just know that I fucks with this one.
Thraxxx Savage

I Had To Post This.....

Its a little weird. But, its still dope.

Kanye, Kanye, Kanye!

Kanye is a at again! This week, slamming Justin Timberlake. Kanye says that JT had the chance to be the MVP of the music world, however he hasn't put out enough material. So Kanye is taking the position for himself.

He also says that he is to music as Michael Jordan is to basketball. Claiming himself as the voice of this generation!! (more like synthesized voice of this generation ha ha)

"I realize that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice," he said in an interview on Wednesday. "It's me settling into that position of just really accepting that it's one thing to say you want to do it and it's another thing to really end up being like Michael Jordan."

How exciting. ( - ;

Rapper Turned Singer: The Voice Tone

When Nas claimed "Hip-Hop is Dead" he wasn't talking about this new emergence of rapper-singers, he was talking about all the whack rappers, who showboat on about money, cars, and bitches.

However, in recent years with the success of T Pain's "Rappa Ternt Sanga" which translates into Rapper Turned Singer. There has been a large group of rappers who have followed T-Pain's trend, In particular Kanye West. The most dominant figure in Hip-Hop today.

Now I'm not picking on West in particular because most "rappers" are too a victim of the auto tone. I just heard a song where Young Jeezy is using it.

The auto tone abandons the lyricism and depth of hip-hop even more so then the "flashy rappers" in the south. This new birth of "rappers turned singers" has completely destroyed the hip-hop culture and made everyone sound the same.

I used to turn on the radio and be able to distinguish exactly who was rapping. However with this new breed of the auto tone its nearly impossible to tell the difference between T Pain, Snoop Dogg, or Kanye West.

Although I do agree that with everyone who says hip-hop needs a "new voice" but apparently rappers have taken that to literally. We need to embrace the lyricism in Hip-Hop and finally give artists such as Talib Kweli and Little Brother their credit. The auto makes everyone sound like their in mentally challenged and anybody with a harmonizer can do it.

The “rappers turned singers” have fully emerged and it depresses the hell out of me. What’s next "blogger turned rapper turned singer." We have to draw the line somewhere, right folks? and bring this shit back to HIP HOP because right now the genre is slowly dying.

I live for Hip-Hop and I'm not going down without a fight. I hope the true hip hop fans aren't either. Everyone please go out to your local record store and support lyrical hip-hop that expands your mind, because it’s a dying breed. If were not careful, sooner then later all the rappers will have become singers. its sad.

Hip-Hop Fans Show Support

Although the economy is shit, soundscans show rappers are still selling albums and remaining in the public eye. Its great to see, fans going out and supporting the music even though money is low. Plus, in the age of the internet its so easy to download, for free. Most consumers are using the internet to their advantage; however they still go out and grab the album. (if its worth it).

The day of buying albums with 2 good songs is over. sorry guys. viva la resistance!

Article: Black Milk "The New King of Hip-Hop"

Here's an interesting article comparing Black Milk to J Dilla. It goes on to claim Black Milk as the new king of Detroit. The article gives some comparisons of the two MC's and their lives.

"Personally, I think Dilla is a genius and the dopest hip-hop producer ever, so if somebody thinks I'm even close to his sound, or if I capture with my music what he captured with his music, that's great," Black Milk said. "But at the same time, I'm trying to do my own thing with hip-hop music."

The poor get poorer and the rich get Diamond Cards

Just when we thought shit was getting bad, here comes Mastercard with a flashier way to go into debt. Then again if you are banking with Kazkommerts bank, the second largest bank in Kazakhstan, you may not be facing the same financial woes as us Americans. The card is laced in gold trim and has a 0.02-carat gem in the center. Only 1000 cards will be released and with a$50,000 limit. The card may be limited but may not rival the popularity or prestige that comes with the AMEX Black card. You be the judge

A real RACE to the finish line

A picture can be worth a thousand words. Tomorrow most of us will be going to the polls to cast our vote for the future president of our country. Exercising our rights as Americans to vote in who will lead this country into the next 4 years. All i hope is that when you get there you forget the small issues like race, and affiliations and focus on the real issues at hand. Who do YOU honestly think is the better candidate? Just because i support Barack Obama, doesn't mean you have to. Just truly understand who you are voting for, and who will bring change in a time when change is our only options. Get out there and be heard. Nov 4th the floor is yours.
